Mechanism of Action (Educational)
HMG is a purified urinary-derived gonadotropin preparation containing both follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) activity.
In women, HMG stimulates ovarian follicular development. In men, it promotes spermatogenesis by stimulating Sertoli cell function.
It is often used in combination or sequentially with HCG in fertility protocols.
